Holiday at sea....
water, sea, sun, tranquility.... and so much more.
That is how we began. When our kids were born we looked for holiday destinations where we could enjoy our holidays from one base - without hopping from hotel to hotel and yet enjoying the diversity of the location. Sea, sun, nature, sport acitivites and cultural events, where the area still kept its original charm and authenticity and which we could relatively easily reach by car or plane - those were our 'search criteria'.
We found Silver Coast, Portugal, an amazing place. The weather is fantastic all year round, people are warm and honest, the food and wine excellent, the golf courses superb. There are a number of towns and cities in the area, Obidos - a must see, Caldas, and, of course, Lisbon, to guarantee cultural experience during holidays, within easy reach.
Since we live in Holland the area of North Holland dunes was a natural choice, the vibrant village of Bergen NH is full of galleries, shops and excellent restaurants, the beach and sea, being not accessible by car, tranquil, and the dunes ideal for biking and hiking.
The Lake Lipno in the Czech Republic, also called the Czech sea for its size, lies surrounded by mountains so the area is ideal for water activities, biking and hiking and skiing in winters. Without knowing you may cross border to Germany or Austria and enjoy different landscapes of Sumana mountain range from the German or Austrian sides. A Unesco world heritage town of Cesky Krumlov is a must to see, in summers full of local and international cultural events, and of course, the unique open air turning theater.
